About

About This Blog: The purpose of this blog is to shed light on current financial events and add some common sense to the mis-information, exaggerations, and selective use of data that is so prevalent in the financial planning and investment management industry.

About Jerry Verseput:  I am a fee-only Certified Financial Planner(TM) and Registered Investment Advisor in El Dorado Hills, CA (Sacramento area).  I’m also a member of NAPFA. I spent the first 20 or so years of my career as an engineer and engineering manager, including 15 years at Intel Corporation.  During the process of getting my MS degree in engineering, I realized I was pretty sick of technology and wanted to do something that made a difference in people’s lives (other than speeding up their video games).  I had always loved investing and personal finance, and decided to make that my second career.  It didn’t take long to figure out that not everyone in the financial services industry has their clients’ best interests at heart, and many of those who do are simply stuck in a sales-oriented business model.  This results in a lot of skewed information and questionable data getting thrown around, whether intentionally or not.  I like to think that I apply the same critical thinking and continuous improvement mindset to finance that I did to engineering, even if it means stepping on some toes and questioning long-held beliefs about financial topics. If nothing else, it’s a lot more fun than grinding out another computer chip.

About Veripax Financial Management, LLC: VFM is Jerry’s company.  The name “Veripax” is a combination of the Latin words Veritas (truth) and Pax (peace).
